Flax is an annual herb with long thin stems, narrow leaves and sky blue flowers ... 💙
There are also varieties with white, pink or purple flowers. A field with a blooming sea of flax is incredibly beautiful! However, the petals of the flowers are short-lived and fall off after a few sunny morning hours. The seeds form in a five-chamber capsule with two seeds in each chamber. Flax is one of all the plants that are known to greatly benefit from mycorrhiza, i.e. the symbiotic relationship with certain species of fungi whose mycelium contributes to the absorption of, for example, phosphorus, and where the fungus receives carbohydrates from the plant in return.
Processing flax into linen yarn is a labor-intensive process. The linen must be rotted, dried, wrung, shaken and crocheted to produce the fiber, then if you want to make fabric, it must be spun and woven. But the quality of linen fabric is hard to beat, it's comfortable, cool, beautiful and durable. And only gets more beautiful and better the more it's used.
